About This Project

The refurbishment and part redevelopment of Abbey Wood Shopping Park included 80,000 sq.ft of new retail construction and refurbishment of buildings, car park and public realm. A substantial piece of public art was commissioned in conjunction with the Planning Authority which has been positioned to provide a welcoming and attractive invitation into the centre.

Anchored by a new 45,000 sq.ft Asda food store and with landscaping features to create a “sense of place” for the local community, this development provides a mixed use development with retail, restaurants, management centre and community use space.

The new public realm zone provides excellent opportunity to embrace the outdoor seating areas provided by the park and tenants. A new link bridge to the southern boundary of the site affords easy pedestrian access from Filton Station and the adjacent MOD office. The new canopy to the existing northern terrace has ensured the whole park was improved.

The Role

Leading an inspirational design team for new restaurant units, public realm and artwork, our role was central to the collective success of the team and project throughout the planning, design, procurement and construction phases within a fully trading retail park. Constant liaison with all existing and new tenants, Including Network Rail where work adjacent to the railway line was being undertaken.
