Whiteley Cinema

About This Project

The 58,000 sq.ft development comprising a 1,300 seat, 9 screen cinema and 7 Restaurant Units, opened in November 2015 and has been a very successful addition to the Town Centre site; a popular Retail / Leisure destination has been created.

The design and construction continued the Shopping Centre’s use of quality materials and construction to create a stunning destination for the 1.2 Million people catchment that it serves. With careful design the two phases of the development look and operate as one retail and leisure destination.

The Role

As Project Manager and Employer’s Agent, we managed the team throughout the design, consents, procurement and construction stages of the scheme, working collaboratively alongside the Client and project team. This included working closely with the cinema operator to agree and deliver the developers shell specification to enable a fast track fit out of the cinema.

Throughout the project, we managed all programme obligations and constraints and all parts of the development opened on a single scheme opening day with Cineworld preview of Hunger Games the target opening date.

The Scheme was constructed in a live retail environment such that works sequencing had to consider the safety and wellbeing of the public and minimise the impact on trade; the biggest challenge was successfully keeping the existing site retail deliveries through the construction site.
