Whiteley Shopping Centre, the £84 million 250,000 sq.ft retail and leisure development opened in May 2013. Over 90% let and occupied at opening, the centre has 58 shops and restaurants which are a combination of local independent retailers and well-known brands. Anchored by a 60,000 sq.ft M&S, the scheme included high quality public realm and landscaped parking facilities. The scheme was Highly Commended at the BCSC (Now Revo) Awards.
Whiteley Shopping Centre represented the latest in retail design. Whiteley became the first UK shopping centre to achieve a BREEAM 2008 ‘Excellent’ rating including the use of 100% sustainable timber panelling, extensive landscaping and specially commissioned public art, all contributing to the streetscapes of the centre being as much of a destination as the shops and restaurants themselves.
The Role
Our role on Whiteley comprised full Project Management services, managing the project from inception, through the planning, design, procurement and construction phases, to successful completion. We liaised directly with all tenant teams through the Agreement for Lease process as well as the management of the tenant fit out programme. We were delighted to be reappointed, and successfully delivered the Phase 2 Cinema and Phase 3, which now has Planning Consent.
